Warning concerning *Little House on the Prairie*

Warning: This show (Little House on the Prairie) is not for worriers, or people who don't like high levels of stress in their television. The episodes always end well (ultimately, philosophically), but they certainly don't usually end happily.

We saw the first part of a two part episode this evening about which I commented: I can hardly believe we watched this voluntarily. It was difficult. I'm going to drive Jim crazy by not telling what it was about because I don't want to get you down.

A final thought: I read somewhere that the last season (Season 9) is darker than previous seasons. As yet I am wondering how it could get any darker. I guess when we get to season 9 we'll find out.

We bought season 1 for the kids for Christmas. They're really loving it so far (about halfway through). But Seth in particular worries a lot about what's going to happen next and how things will turn out. He has actually left the room before because he couldn't stand to watch. I find this both funny and endearing since he has no problem watching Star Wars, Spiderman, etc.

Yes, Michael and I have noticed that Little House is so much more real then other things we watch, and therefore it affects us more. There are two episodes I love in the first season: The first one, where the crops are destroyed and the townsmen gather to resow everything, and the Christmas episode, where everyone scrapes together money to buy each other gifts. It's an O'Henry episode.

We watched the LHOP Christmas episode last night. At one point, I paused the movie and pointed out to our kids that everyone is so concerned about what to get the others and nobody is even thinking about what they will receive. I think my kids heard me, but I'm not sure they got it. I guess I'll find out 10 months from now.
