Hard to Shop With An Almost Year and a Half Old (Gasp!) Parker

We took Parker with us to the mall (to get Michael's hair cut) and to Target this afternoon. The outing didn't go quite as well as I would have preferred. Now that Parker is able to walk he is unsatisfied with sitting in the buggy or stroller. He wants to head out on his own, and of course such a thing cannot be allowed.

This makes my life just a bit more difficult in that I have to find time to do the necessary shopping when Parker and I are not alone together. The ideal situation would see Parker running around the store chased by a caretaker, while I took care of business. Unfortunately this is not a very practical idea.

I have two words for you: baby leash. :0) Cohen LOVES it!!! He gets to walk everywhere and can't run off. I never could Alina used to it. She would cry a lot, but then again I have to admit that I didn't take the time to train her to get used to it. I just left her in the stroller with Lyndal. Cohen and been in the stroller with Alina up until the past week. I went to the mall and felt brave enough not to take the stroller and let them all walk - with Cohen on the leash. Cohen did great and loved it!! Got out lots of energy for him, too.

That is a fabulous idea. What Parker needs is room to run around which a baby leash would provide. I do wonder whether he would likely trip people up within the confines of a Wal-mart aisle, and I wonder, as a good, overeducated liberal intellectual, whether using a leash is demeaning to the child. I really don't think it would be.

As for the leash, they make ones that go around their wrist but I recommend the one we have that actually is more like a harness. Seems like I picked it up at Wal-mart or Toys-R-Us. It's been 6 years ago so it's hard to remember. If you want to find one and can't just let me know and I would be happy to help you hunt one down.
